Citizens of Zadar firmly believe that the most beautiful
sunset in the world can be seen from their city
waterfront (Riva in Croatian), next to their
Sea organ, which produces a range of enchanting tones, depending on the
movement and power of the waves. Many tourists are visiting Zadar to enjoy
unforgettable sunsets with a view of nearby islands.
If you happen to be on Zadar's Riva at sunset, you'll be bathed in the reddest
glow imaginable, a phenomenon that is the result of Zadar's setting in the
middle of several islands in front of the Zadar and the Velebit mountain range
behind. You'll also see a large poster of Alfred Hitchcock under glass on the
south end of waterfront. It is captioned in 5 languages and tells the story of
how he strolled the Riva during a visit and proclaimed that "Zadar has the most
beautiful sunset in the world." That was how he described the meeting of the
sinking sun and the sea in Zadar. It's a statement that can withstand any
challenge.
