A must see within the cathedral of St. Lawrence is the
Chapel of St John which is considered the most beautiful Renaissance monument in
Dalmatia.
The chapel is in the form of a mausoleum with a marble sarcophagus of Blessed
John of Trogir (Sv. Ivan Ursini, patron of the town) in the middle of chapel.
The decorations within the chapel were created from 1461 to 1497 by Niccolò di
Giovanni Fiorentino (Nikola Firentinac), Donatello's pupil. Andrija Alesi and
occasionally Ivan Duknovic of Trogir assisted him. Statues and decorative
reliefs are in harmony with the balanced architecture of the interior, according
to antique ideals.
