The catamaran is accessed through the non slip stern steps which are
wide and not to high, so the walk into the cockpit is very easy. The
Lagoon 421 cockpit is spacious with a seating area to port and full size
FRP cockpit table is provided for the seating area. There is stowage
beneath the cockpit seats and this area is protected from the weather by
the hardtop bimini.
The helm station is in an elevated position on the starboard side of the
cockpit with a double helm seat and is reached by steps under. All sail
handling and control lines lead back to helm station through a battery
of clutches. The boat is very easy to move around with wide side decks,
recessed hatches and good hand holds which enable movement to the
seating areas forward at the leading edge of the bridge deck or on the
small seats on each bow.
There is a good anchoring arrangement forward, with a deep anchor well
and a powerful 1200W electric windlass and eight large mooring cleats.
LAGOON 421 EXTERIOR
The sailing catamaran Lagoon 421 has a robust and sturdy feel that is
reassuring. It is easy to move around and the concentration of all controls
at the helm station and the quality of all equipment and deck gear make
handling the boat straightforward for a couple. Helm station is practical
and comfortable for 2.
A criticism of the Lagoon 420 is that interior volume and comfort had been
at the expense of sailing performance, especially in lighter wind. This was
certainly true and the improvements to the Lagoon 421 have addressed some of
this problems. One of the upgrades in the Lagoon 421 that have undoubtedly improved
performance is the introduction of a flat topped mainsail. Flat topped and
fully battened mainsail appears huge and impressive and ensures enjoyable
sailing. The Lagoon 421 has superb accommodation and now has good
performance in lighter winds what is great improvement compared to previous
model Lagoon 420.
LAGOON 421 - SAILING
Engines sit in their own well insulated compartment, behind the aft
cabins. Engine noise is not excessive in the aft cabins even at full
power. Compartment is easily accessible through a hatch at the top
of the stern steps. The cat Lagoon 421 has two Yanmar 3JH5-ACE 40HP
three cylinder engines with two bladed props that provide sure
footed and quiet power. Propulsion is aft of the rudders what ensure
greater performance of the propellers.
The L421 has two fuel tanks, 300 liters each. At cruising speed of about
8 knots, this would give an effective range under twin engines of 500
miles. The engine controls are well situated and easy to use. The cat
L421 is easy to handle and to move in and out of its marina berth,
thanks to good visibility from the helm position.
LAGOON 421 - UNDER POWER

It is very easy and comfortable to handle Lagoon 421 with all controls
that led to the helm position. You will be pleasantly surprised by the
sailing performance of the catamaran Lagoon 421.
